THE opening date of what has been promised will be one of the region's most impressive rooftop venues has been set - as pictures show progress.
The ABOVE venue, located on the roof of the well-known Vermont Hotel in Newcastle City Centre, is set to open once lockdown restrictions are lifted. Confirming the target opening date, the director of the Gainford Group, which runs the hotel, has revealed the plans will also include a cinema and wedding venue.
Imran Khaliq said the venue is set to launch on June 21, coinciding with the date the hospitality sector is expected to reopen in England. Latest mock-ups provided to The Northern Echo from Mr Khaliq show how the venue will provide 360-degree views of the city.
Hotel bosses previously said the bar will be "unlike anything in the UK," once it welcomes the first guests. Currently, the Prime Minister Boris Johnson's roadmap says that indoor pubs, restaurants and cafes will be allowed to reopen on the June date provided the Covid-19 pandemic is under control.
A spokesperson for ABOVE Newcastle previously said: "Prepare for a perfect panorama as we unveil ABOVE - a dazzling, all-new, all-weather rooftop bar and restaurant coming early 2021.
"Located on the roof of Newcastle's famous Vermont Hotel, ABOVE is second to none like anything in the UK has to offer, with 360-degree backdrops of the Newcastle city and interior design that will compete with the world’s best. "
The best Newcastle has to offer is coming soon and we want you to be part of it," they added. Pictures recently posted to the official ABOVE social media page show how the bar and restaurant is taking shape as the dreamy lighting has been added.
